Hurricane Isabel, Anorexic Dog, Reality TV, the Blue Agave and Being Old
The tail end of hurricane Isabel has hit Toronto and the rain was coming down fast and furious this morning. Not exactly earth-shattering, just aggravating that I had to take the streetcar to work rather than walk. I bought a new umbrella this morning. Let's see if I can hold on to this one for more than a few days.
Tyler (my roommate) has his dog visiting us this weekend. She is an anorexic looking black Afghan hound with a tiny little head and exposed ribs and spine. Her name is Morticia and she is quite cute. It's nice to have a dog around to take care of, knowing that it is only for a few days and not a twenty year long commitment.
I watched the first Survivor Pearl Island last night, which I loved, of course. I am already rooting for the skinny-geeky guy on the Morgan Tribe (Ryan S.), or the Jerry Garcia-esque guy on the Drake tribe. Let me say it again, I love reality television.
We went to the Blue Agave for dinner with Tyler's mom, her boyfriend, and his daughter. It was very good and very cheap. Where else on Queen Street West can you find a decent bottle of wine for $18.00 including tax? Seafood Pasta for $10.00? Charming waiter? Thumbs up.
Tonight is my pal Jamie's birthday and he's having a little party at his house. I am expecting this to be a low key event -- hoping that it will be low key in fact, as I have to work tomorrow and can't seem to manage the sleepless night/early-morning working thing anymore. I am definitely getting old.
On that note, I will sign out for now.

Andrea's Inaugural Opti-Blog Entry
Hi, Welcome to my first blog entry. Just to get acquainted I will provide you with a little background information.
My name is Andrea Lorraine and I live on the good part of Queen Street West in downtown Toronto, Canada.
My birthday is September 11, 1973 which makes me just-30 years old. I work as a web designer and office administrator for an auction company. Several years ago I graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in political science and urban studies. After that I took a certificate course in web design at the Bell Centre for Creative Communication.
Here is the link to my website that I made a few years ago for a class that I was taking: all about andrea and salamanders You will find some pictures of me and some background information, that may be a bit out of date.
I like to read fiction and non-fiction, write, watch television, movies, music videos, go to rock concerts, hang out in smokey bars, eat "ethnic" (mostly vegetarian) food, travel to other cities, spend hours obsessing over some topic or other on the Internet, etc. etc.
Some of my favourite things at the moment are: the new Al Franken book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them which is absolutely hilarious, Paradise Hotel (and sadly, most reality television - I'm sure I will soon be posting about the new Survivor), Six Feet Under, Eminem, French martinis, Irvine Welsh, the Punk Show on muchmusic.....etc. etc. I will post a list of web links sooner or later and try to point you towards some of my favourite things.
Here is a picture of me, but it is a few years old. I will try to find a current one for a future post:
Thanks for reading and I will be back soon...
